Healing herself took her away ...
Healing clients brought her back...
Healing the world opened her soul...
Affectionately known as Dr. K - the "Singing Psychotherapist" with the record label Dr. K's Music Therapy, she is a singer-songwriter and author hailed as an Artist for Peace by Gandhi BE Magazine. Dr. K’s Music tells the story of the world’s people, with the intention of uplifting and promoting inner-peace for all mankind. The fact that she is an actual licensed psychotherapist and Board Certified Holistic Practitioner naturally adds to her insight and perspective. And although her training far exceeds the limitations of music, she has witnessed the relief that music can bring as an artist and survivor. As such, her lyrical vulnerability fills your soul as she artistically translates the human condition.
Determined to help others obtain inner-peace, she created the UR2.Global Psycho-Spiritual Arts Project eight years ago where the acronym: UR2 means "you are too an important, valued, worthy soul not needing to be famous or rich to help add more light and love to the world." Along with the support of her co-founder/spouse and over a hundred other artists that have supported the project, she believes that only when inner-peace is accomplished can world peace be achieved! (See her "Inner-Peace Equals World Peace Annual projects and music video "World Peace Starts At Home").
As an artist, the terms "music and therapy" used by Dr. K's Music Therapy Record Label in this milieu are defined as: music being a sonic vibration experienced therapeutically to describe the feeling of wellbeing one achieves soulfully. For Dr. K, music is a non-traditional ministry, offering inspirational songs that expand consciousness, and on the one hand could be labeled “alternative spirituals” with how they tap into spirit and honor all spiritual paths, and could also be labeled “folk” in how they are scrupulously honest and raw in search of reclamation and inner-peace while infusing in a little jazzy-neo-soul undertone just because she feels like it. She has a unique and versatile sound that ranges from sultry tenor to first soprano. And what comes through her lyrics whether her resonance is high or low is a tremendous profundity of thought.
She has written socially-conscious songs for global social projects (two of which Youtube featured prominently utilizing her song titles to curate their own playlist): For the People-Healing Our Nation (to unite our country) and God You See This Right – (to help soothe the Covid 19 pandemic). Other projects include: World Peace, GAIA Earth, Veterans, Global Women’s Peace Foundation – Healing Female Genital Mutilation, Women’s Addiction Facilities, World Hospice Day (Transitioning With Peace of Mind), Women’s Arts SWAN Day, Hurricane Relief for Houston, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and co-founded the UR2.Global Arts Project to uplift the self-esteem of humanity that’s received over one million media impressions where her theme song “I’m Good Enough” is the theme.
The arts project currently spans 6 continents, 13 countries and 32 cities. As such, she has been honored as a Global-Changemaker, and was also a member of the Oprah Winfrey Belief Team where her organization was the lead coordinator for her city to conjure religious tolerance and diversity. In so doing, Dr. K’s music bonds people together in a way that leaves them feeling connected to mankind and to the Source of their being as opposed to just being great entertainment.
Dr. K is one of the first singer-songwriters to blend her training as a psychotherapist and non-secular doctorate in metaphysical theology into song offering high vibrational lyrics that aligns the mind, body and spirit. Her depth not only comes from her training in academia but also her personal awakening through non-traditional spirituality and transmuting unwanted emotional traumatic experiences into a powerful form of healing that she coined as “Sacretherapy®” pronounced “sacred-therapy with a silent d” as desribed in her self-help book (pictured above left).
Dr. K’s career began early in life as she spent most of her formative years in choirs and doing plays where she also received a Thespian Award. Born with the gift of music she was voted as “Most Talented Senior” in high school and attended the Duke Ellington School of Music for a short stint. In college she performed throughout the east coast doing a one-woman psychodrama from her first book titled “Look Inside & See the Vision.” Where she offered her musical and poetic interpretations of the human condition, thinking music would be her contribution to healing human turmoil. However, the above-mentioned trauma temporarily turned her attention away from her first love of music to psychology attempting to understand the human condition at its worst and best. Fortunately, she was able to heal and come full circle to incorporate the knowledge she obtained as a a victor and psychotherapist to help uplift mankind with her music.
Her studies in both mental health, spirituality, and talents in the arts added to her broad alternative and eclectic treatment modalites early on as a former Director of Mental Health Counseling within the School Board, where President Clinton’s Administration visited her program giving it national acclaim; and as an Adjunct Psychology Instructor; as well as a psychodrama consultant for Women’s Addiction Facilities and the Boys and Girls Club, Artist-in-Residencies, and her own Not-for-Profit Psycho-Spiritual Arts Project: UR2.Global.
She has also advocated for music and the arts on her former radio show named after her ground-breaking book “From Psychotherapy to Sacretherapy® – Reframing 170 Mental & Emotional Diagnoses from a Spiritual and Holistic Perspective telling sufferers “you’re not sick- you’re sacred!” The same message she sends while performing under her record label. Dr. K says “Healing myself took me away from performing my music, while wanting to help others heal brought me back, but music itself has always been therapy for me."
When not in the recording studio or performing, Dr. K performs her empowering music at her Sacretherapy® retreats for artists, healers and ministers using her Sacretherapy® treatment model as an alternative healing modality during group-work and social projects. She also devotes her time to the UR2.Global ARTS Project as described above and is interested in contributing to inspirational festivals that uplift mankind.
